Hampton by Hilton Bath

  • Main Contractor:McAleer & Rushe
  • Architect:Urban Innovations
  • Stone Type:Bath Stone
  • Project Value:£900,000

PMJ was entrusted with providing natural stone for a contemporary 6-storey 202-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel, centrally located in the historic city of Bath. The site is uniquely positioned within the City of Bath conservation area, renowned as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Scope specifics:

  • Traditional hand-set natural stone cladding
  • Use of local Bath stone and design
  • Inclusion of squint stone detailing

Key challenges:

The project faced an initial constraint due to the adjacent building which limited access to the three elevations bounded by pavings and roads. To overcome this challenge, PMJ loaded approximately 2000m2 of natural stone cladding via a tower crane through a bespoke scaffold onto the loading bays.

Greatest achievement from this project:

Squint stones were added to give the façade an eye-catching feature detail, while also ensuring the hotel rooms had optimum light.

The result:

The project was completed ahead of the programme, enabling the hotel to open sooner and maximising revenue for the hotel operator. The stunning hotel accommodation is now enjoyed by its many guests that visit each week.
